The Nagusi Intelligence Center, the centre for biomedical research and innovation on the subject of aging, will be located in the Tarabusi building on Zorrotzaurre.

The project was made public yesterday by the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, and the head of the Provincial Authority of Bizkaia, Unai Rementeria, in a public appearance also attended by the chairman of the Mondragon Corporation, Iñigo Ucín,and the director of Mondragon Unibertsitatea, Vicente Atxa, entities that are also taking part in the initiative, alongside the Basque Government. Its sponsors indicated, moreover, that the doors of this project are open to new partners, both public and private.

The Nagusi Intelligence Center, which aims to become a pioneer in the sector in Europe, will have an investment budget anticipated to reach €20 million over the next five years. The centre will provide education and training on the “silver economy”, including the introduction of undergraduate and master’s degrees; research will be undertaken in fields like biomedicine for product development; and it will drive business activity in this sector.

The Tarabusi building, one of the 19 industrial buildings that the Special Development Plan for Zorrotzaurre has retained to be reused for new purposes, has a footage of over 4,000 sq. m. and it is estimated that its refurbishment will conclude in late 2021 or early 2022.
